The McFarland Institute has CPE programs at all levels of training. All programs are accredited by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education, Inc.
Summer Program
The program is designed for the full time student to work in a clinical setting with structured reflection over an eleven-week period. Usually, the student group is composed of seminarians, who have completed one year of theological education at the seminary level, though qualified laypersons are often accepted.
Extended Program
The program is designed for the seminary student, the local clergyperson, or layperson who wishes to grow in ministry capability. This part time unit of training is equivalent to an eleven-week program but spread over 17 to 20 weeks. Though placements are frequently in clinical sites of the center, an applicant employed in ministry may, in some circumstances, use his or her place of employment.
Supervisory CPE Program
The program is designed for the accomplished pastor who is now ready to teach. The student will continue to function as a professional minister while learning the art and craft of pastoral supervision. Progression through the program is designed to assist the student to become certified by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education as a CPE Supervisor. The usual applicant is one who has completed an MDiv degree, has ecclesiastical endorsement or commissioning, has had professional pastoral experience, and has completed at least four units of
CPE.
