NURSE EDUCATION PROGRAM

A Basic Preparation Course
for Church Nurses
The Congregational Wellness Division of The McFarland Institute
offers the Church Nurse Education Program (or CNEP) endorsed by
the International Parish Nurse Resource Center, St. Louis,
Missouri.
The American Nurses Association has recognized parish nursing
(church nursing)
as a specialty in nursing.
THE OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this program, the participant
will:
- Embrace
the integration of faith and health as central to the church
nurse role.

Demonstrate the knowledge, attitude, and skills to practice as
a novice church nurse.
- Value a
peer system of support.
- Be able to identify a network for continuing development and
support.
- Make a
personal commitment to continued spiritual formation so as to
more effectively perform the church nurse role.

singing, and rejoicing!

Stretching your understanding of faith and nursing.

Enjoying an
informal, retreat-like atmosphere.
THE SCHEDULE
-
Daily sessions begin at 8:30 a.m. and conclude
at 5:00 p.m.
-
A continental breakfast is served each morning.
-
Lunch is served daily.
-
Prayer and devotion begins and end each day and
is led by a participant.
THE COMMENCEMENT
The service is usually held in the late
afternoon on the last day of class, about 5:00 p.m. It is
followed by a short reception for the participants and their
families and friends. The class will select one of its’ peers
to issue a challenge to the graduating class. Class members
will also offer input in developing a class vow as they commit
themselves to this ministry during the commencement exercise.

CONTINUING EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES

The McFarland
Institute is approved to offer continuing education units for
registered nurses through the Louisiana State Nurses
Association. In addition to these scheduled activities, special
CEU offerings may be offered throughout the year as
needed/requested.
